Description

Between September and April, I took the Digital Sales and Social CRM module as part of my in Digital Marketing and Sales. Throughout this time, I got to explore how companies manage their sales processes and relationships with customers, something really important for anyone looking to work in marketing.

In the second semester, we started learning about positioning, what it is, how to do it properly and the different strategies involved. One example we looked at was SuperValu's big rebrand. They shifted from being seen as a low-price, less appealing supermarket to something more premium and quality-driven. They did this by moving away from promoting own-brand products, which are often linked with being cheap, and instead introduced “The New SuperValu Range.” This helped encourage customers to trust the brand without thinking they were compromising on quality.

We also dove into social publishing, how it’s changed, how to plan for it and how to create content that really works. We explored what types of content perform best and why and learned how SEO and SMO (search and social optimization) help marketers hit their goals. One key takeaway was how dominant video content has become.
For one of our projects, we had to create a video ad. I went for something personal and emotional, inspired by those heartfelt Christmas ads. The campaign, “Tastes of the World” for Lidl, focused on how food can help reconnect people to their roots, even when they’re far from home. I had the change to create an ad from storyboarding and filming to editing. I didn’t expect editing to take so much effort, but it’s where the story really came together.

We later covered content mapping, the e-marketing mix, and how to measure the effectiveness of campaigns. We also looked at brand elements and internal branding, basically all the elements that help build and maintain strong brand value over time.

Finally, our final project was a Sales Report that I decided to base on the Lidl ad campaign created previously. This included market analysis (from the perspective of an immigrant audience), forecasting, strategy planning, promotional mix, budgeting and performance controls.

Feelings

Working on the Lidl video ad was honestly one of the best parts of this module. I was excited about the idea and proud to see it come to life. It was definitely challenging, especially the editing, which sometimes got frustrating. There were moments I’d think, “I should’ve filmed that differently,” but it was too late to fix. Still, it felt rewarding.
As for the Sales Report, I found it tough but also super satisfying. I actually love research and data analysis, seeing how numbers back up an idea is something I really enjoy. After doing the report, I started seeing Lidl differently. I realized they’re actually very focused on improving and evolving and that’s something you only really appreciate when you look at them this closely.

Evaluation

Each project had its highs and lows. The video ad was my favorite, it gave me a chance to be creative and emotional with my work. The Sales Report was more technical and time-consuming, but I learned a lot from it and felt proud of the end result. If I’m honest, I did struggle with time management here. It’s not easy juggling work and college, and a few times I left things too late and had to rush.

Analysis

I think I did really well with the creative side of the Lidl ad, especially the storytelling and planning. I realized that I enjoy coming up with ideas and turning them into something visual. At the same time, I found out I’m also drawn to data, even when it’s hard to find the exact info, it’s satisfying when you can back up an idea with real statistics. That said, I need to improve my time planning, they still make me a bit stressed.

Conclusion

This module gave me a solid understanding of both the creative and technical sides of digital sales and CRM. I learned a lot about myself too, mainly that stepping out of my comfort zone is tough, but worth it. I discovered I enjoy both the creative storytelling and the more analytical side of marketing, which is a good combo to have. At the same time, I know I’ve got areas to work on, like managing deadlines better and looking for the information more confidently, what concerns statistics and data.

Action Plan

Looking ahead, I want to work on managing my time better, maybe set aside time earlier in the week just for assignments so I’m not stressing last-minute. Balancing work and study isn’t easy, but I think if I plan smarter, I can handle both without sacrificing quality.

Overall, this module was super useful. It didn’t just teach me theory—it gave me real experience and helped me feel more confident about my future in digital marketing and sales.
